A series of garden episodes occur along a path that sweeps behind the House, visible from the surrounding streets, making the garden part of the public domain. The largest garden is the fountain garden, which is centered on a carefully conceived bronze fountain. GLA introduced the concept of a fountain to be a focal point for the Governor’s residence. GLA worked with the fountain sculptor to develop motifs and massing that capture the essence of Chesapeake Bay flora and fauna and recall the Victorian style of the Mansion.
